Although this band practiced quite a lot, they
only played once actual gig. Strangely enough, as low-end as the band was,
they actually had a full-time soundman/roadie named Lee Adams. The
Cultivators practiced primarily at David Shoudy's home in a garage that had
been somewhat soundproofed. They also practiced in the Coronado HS
auditorium as they were getting in trouble for making too much noise at
David Shoudy's home. Some practices, as well as other musical type of
gatherings and such, were held at the home of Steve Ussery or garage at
Lee's. The members of the band came up with the band's name at one of these
gatherings. The band split up when Bryan joined "36T". Steve
Ussery went onto "Axis" while David Shoudy joined a San Diego band
called "Tryax".

Sound Engineer, Lee Adams, works the famous
Cultivator box designed by John Kelley Brown. The box consists of a Tapco 6
channel with spring reverb, two 100 watts amps from a huge pair of powered
Altecs, and a fan. Portables were scarce back then, so, they had one made;
price tag $400. Shoudy and Mealy split the bill.
