Kehl and the Ratners  (1981-1982)

Original Members:

John Costello: guitar, vocals
Bryan Mealy: bass, vocals
Bill Clark: drums
Kehl Conaughton,  vocals/Guitar
Kehl graduated from a high school in Naples Italy.

This band originally did only originals but later added Kehl for vocals. After Kehl was added, the band switched to primarily doing cover tunes. The band played a few parties and once played in the bandstand at Coronado park for some strange event where the Beach Boys were supposed to show up. This band primarily played new-wave type music including many songs by the Pretenders. We practiced either at John Costello’s home or a garage at “Quarters T” at the naval officers housing.

The band divided when John Costello joined “The Heard”. Bryan and Kehl went on with the “Kehl and the Ratners” name by adding a new guitar player and drummer.

Bill Clark later enlisted in the military service.
