The Wermz (1979-1980)

Original Members:

Steve Gouthro, '80: keyboards, lead vocals
Dave Shoudy, '80: guitar, vocals
Bryan Mealy, '79: bass, vocals
Darren McDermed, '80: drums
Steve Ussery, '83: drums (sub'd for Oakwood gig)

This band was primarily made up from members of Extortion. Scott young was replaced as guitarist since he had a tough work schedule to work around (he actually had a real job). The Wermz played a few gigs around Coronado including one at the Coronado Library (yes, a rock band at the library), a Junior High School dance, Coronado HS Hi Jinx, and The Oakwood Apartments. The band primarily played rock music and focused on songs within Steve's singing range. The Wermz practiced  in a garage that had been somewhat soundproofed at David Shoudy's house. The name of the band was provided as a joke by Bryan, but ended up sticking; the strange spelling of the name was typical of band names during that era.

1980, The Wermz reunited with Steve Ussery '83 on drums. The band became The Cultivators soon after that.
